Women's FA Cup Final Details Announced
From
Worcestershire county FA web site
The Football Association and Derby County Football Club are
proud to announce that Pride Park Stadium will be the venue for The FA Women’s
Cup, sponsored by E.ON, 2009 Final.
It is hoped the match, taking place on Bank Holiday Monday 4
May 2009, will attract the best ever attendance for a women’s game in England,
beating the 24,582 at last year’s FA Women’s Cup Final in Nottingham and the
international crowd of 29,092 for England’s victory against Finland at the City
of Manchester Stadium in 2005.
The 2009 Final will be
the third played under the sponsorship of E.ON and forms one part of a wider
partnership the energy company has with The FA. E.ON also sponsor The FA Cup,
The FA Youth Cup and The FA Schools Programme.
To help secure a crowd
in excess of 30,000 for the game, a four day festival of women’s and girls’
football is planned for the City between May 1-4 May.
Presented by the East Midlands Development Agency (emda), who generously
supported the last two record-breaking Finals in Nottingham, the Festival of
Football will include:-
- A showcase of
talent from local girls clubs in Derby Market Place.
- A
women’s and girls' interactive football exhibition with coaching sessions at
Pride Park.
- A girls'
tournament featuring Centres of Excellence from across the Midlands and South
Yorkshire.
