Redditch playing a much changed side from last season and introducing 5 players from last 7years under 16's had a tough introduction to the Premier division. Although the Reds had as much play as Atherstone in the first half they always looked the weaker side.

Atherstone experience and general individual strength was stronger than the Redditch players and as a result each 50/50 ball was won by the visitors. It was Atherstone who opened the scoring but the Reds pulled this back with a powerful run and cool finish from Smith. Defensive mistakes were punished and Atherstone reached half time 1-3 up.

The second half was much more disappointing for Redditch, playing below their certain capability they allowed Atherstone to make and take opportunities, again although the visitors played well with nice pass and move football it was generally mistakes by Redditch that gave the goals away.

If Redditch is to make any impression on the league this season then they need to get back to basics and also be more competitive.

I'm sure over the coming weeks there will be a steady improvement seen and that this poor result will be forgotten.
