Redditch were caught totally cold by an
immediate Knowle attack which resulted in a goal within their first
minute. To say this was disappointing is an understatement but to give
the Reds credit they knuckled down and equalised with a super goal from
Hopkins, striking the ball from the half way line the bounce eluded the
Knowle keeper and despite a valiant effort from a defender the ball was
in the net. Redditch were then unlucky not to take the lead when a free
kick from Laura Perkins came back off the crossbar.
The second half saw Redditch make their
first substitution unfortunately Tilley aggravated a previous hamstring
injury and had to be replaced, the subsequent re-organisation upset the
balance of the team and Knowle began to get the upper hand. The second
goal came after pressure on the Reds defence from the Knowle attack and
the third a few minutes from time after the Reds stopped to check on
Hopkins who received a second ball in the face of the match but without
the whistle from the referee Knowle quick correctly carried on playing
unaware of the incident.
Overall a good performance from the young
Redditch side, introducing Lauren Jack for her senior debut.
Next weeks game is now a re-arranged
fixture versus Solihull away and then week following another re-arranged
and reversed fixture versus Hopwood Star at home. |
