Both teams and the supporters
took time today to reflect today with a minutes silence for Remembrance
Day. The fallen shall be remembered, thank you for you support......
Fielding what could be considered an under
strength Redditch team it was a pleasure to see the upbeat manner in
which they started the game. Having several attacks in the early stages
but not quite finding the net one could see the game turning on a
mistake, and that was the case.
Rubery were quick on the break and one such
attack saw Kirty Grigg beat in goal but Susie Harrison was on the line
to clear, soon afterwards Redditch had the ball in the net, but chalked
off as Jess Stanley helped it along from an offside position, It was
then that Toni McQuaid made an uncharacteristic mistakes and fly kicked
at the ball, the Rubery forward took full advantage and passed the goal
passed the advancing Grigg.
Redditch maintained their play and despite
another opportunity being missed by Rubery the Reds were rewarded when
Katherine Christopher was up ended in the penalty box. Laura Perkins
stepped up and fired home to the relief of the team who visions of the
last two penalties which we re missed by other Redditch players.
The second half saw Redditch continue to
apply pressure with Rubery competively restricting the home team to any
real chances. The closest came as Perkins hit the post before a smart
through ball from Laura Tilley released Stanley and she finished with a
lovely curling shot round the keeper.
Rubery always looked dangerous on the break
but is was from corner they equalised when not for the first time this
season Redditch failed to close down the second play and left an open
shot at goal. It looked like the game was heading for a draw before
Stanley pressured the goalkeeper who advanced to clear the ball with her
feet, the balanced powered into Stanley but she managed to keep composed
and her feet to gently guide the ball in to the empty net. The last few
minutes were tense but Leroux who had replaced McQuaid in the centre of
defence along with Ellie Hopkins were not going to beaten again.
All in all a fantastic team performance
where everyone worked for each other. |
