After not playing a game for five weeks and
fielding yet another changed team Redditch actually started quite
brightly and opened the scoring with Lauren Jack's first goal in Open
Age football. Unfortunately the lead lasted little over a minute when
Tipton broke down the right and crossed a ball which should have been
easily turned away, however it wasn't and the Tipton forward had the
easiest of tap in's. Chances came and went for both sides, the best
opportunity for the Reds was a penalty, saved by the Tipton keeper and
for Tipton a delicate lob over the Redditch keeper but the Tipton
forward had just strayed offside.
The second half saw Tipton also receive a
penalty, this time it was converted but disallowed due to encroachment.
The retake was parried round the post by Grigg in the Redditch goal.
However enforced changes in the first half due to injuries to Kellie
Smith and Susie Harrison and then subsequently to Laura Tilley weakened
Redditch going forward and defending too deeply, then following a cross
from the left wing the Tipton number eight directed the ball into the
top corner of the goal. Redditch tried to get back into the game but
made no real threat to the visitors goal and were punished for their
lack of endeavour when Tipton break away and scored their third.
A difficult game given the lack of matches
recently but these are the games that show the teams character and today
it just didn't happen. One can make excuses about lack of games, players
playing out of position and the injuries but in truth Redditch played
below their capability and must lift themselves for next weeks visit of
Birch Coppice which will be another tight encounter. |
