After last week’s disappointment, the Jets travelled to Welland.
Fielding a team of 8 the Jets new it would be a hard game but started
the match the better team. First half saw the Jets have the better
chances, but for Welland's keeper the jets would have been 2 up with
Steph and VIcky both coming close with long range shots only for the
keeper to parry the ball away to safety. Jets defence held firm with the
occasional save from their keeper.
Half time 0-0 second half saw more of the same with the jets keeping
Wellands 9 plays on their toes. Again the jets where denied a goal, a
free kick for hand ball taken quickly by Steph saw the keeper again save
the ball.
At lasts a goal with one of many attacks down the rights hand side. Saw
the ball passed back to the Welland keeper who with Vicky closing her
down hesitated in the clearance kicked the ball only to hit the
attacking Charlotte. GOAL!
Right from the restart Welland up their game and started to press the
Jets defence, a cross from the left saw the ball fall nicely the a
Welland attacker who’s shot at close range could only be parried by the
keeper in to the net. 1-1
Tactical substitutions by the Welland manager started to pay off with
the Jets play mostly in their own half and beginning to tire. A well
taken corner saw the ball floated into the box, goal mouth scramble
ensued ball ended up in the net. 2-1 to Welland with everything to play
for (including the promise of a McDonnalds) the Jets continued to press,
but to no avail. final score 2-1 to Welland
