This game was shortened to 40 minutes each
way due to the late kick off and the grey skies. The weather which
should have, according to the forecast, been improving didn't and the
most rain we have had for some weeks continued for much of the game
along with ever darkening skies.
However Redditch made a promising start and
opened the scoring just past the 5 minutes mark, a great shot from
Lingham across the goalkeeper into the far corner. Redditch continued to
apply pressure against the 10 players of Hopwood as a result of motorway
problems preventing one of their players arriving for kick off. Fifteen
minutes in and the player arrived but her introduction initially lifted
Redditch who scored a deft lobbed effort from Stanley, following up
another Lingham strike which hit the crossbar.
Hopwood created some chances of their own
and were rewarded with a sharp finish after a slick one two penetrated
the Reds defence. Moving to half time Hopwood were competing on equal
terms although Redditch were creating and missing more clear cut
opportunities.
The second half saw Redditch again have
more possession but failing to find the net, whilst Hopwood had fewer
attacks they still looked like they could find the equaliser. At last
though a 20 yard shot from Frampton which hugged the floor all the way
beat the hosts keeper who up to that point had made several good stops.
Further goals came via deflected shot from
Leroux and another well hit shot from Lingham that wrapped up the game.
Overall a good result and perhaps if the full 90 minutes were possible
another goal or two could have been added against a tiring Hopwood side
who must be given credit for refusing to accept defeat until the final
whistle went.
Thanks go for all those who supported the
team on the night including the parents, grand-parents, boyfriends,
girlfriends, brothers and sisters and also Laura Tilley and Lucy
Roberts, who turned up to play but couldn't due to the league rules on
number of players and the managers incompetence.
