A glorious day to finish off the season
with the sun shining and the last game being a double header the Jets
had it all to play for. Only able to field 8 for their final gruelling
matches 22 minutes each way was a battle from the first whistle.
Conceding three goals in rapid succession
in the first 15 minutes it looked like the Jets were going to finish off
with a massive defeat in both games but they kept their heads high and
battled. The first match was 0-6 but the second half was a greatly
improved Jets side. Injuries to regular players and those not attending
today could have made the difference but the game must go on and the
girls showed true grip.
Second match was even harder as the stamina
kicked in after battling for 45 minutes a player short took its toll.
The Jets forward coming off still struggling with a thigh injury picked
several games back meant the team went down to seven players. One player
on the side line not playing picked up the gauntlet and swopped cloths
to come of as a fresh pair of legs. With agreement from the referee and
no objections from Ferndale Charlotte came on to help with the attacking
play but it was almost to little to late to really make that difference.
Chasing hard and for those seldom forward
balls it really did give their players a wake call as the hard hitting
tackles from Charlotte defiantly came in from the second game
substitution.
Forgetting the score lines in both games,
the teams, the managers and coaches all agreed the girls gave it their
all and fought to the last with every once of strength they had which
was very evident today.
My respect to them all today for turning up
to the last game, short on numbers, suffering injuries and still gave it
their all. Passion, persistence and drive they had the respect of
everyone on the field of play today.
My last words to the entire team is always
a
Well Done ! BUT today the whole team desired nothing less than an
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE!
Closing the season they have shown that the
Jets very much one of the most improved teams of the club in all areas
of camaraderie, sportsmanship, growing ability on the field with
emerging players that have rocked to opposition by their improvements
this year.
A huge well done from Graham and Scott to
all the girls for a great season echoed by myself they truly have been a
wonder to watch. Forget the stats, the Jets improvements this season can
not be questioned.
Final point.... Time now to prepare for the
new season ahead.
