A great pre-season work out for this years squad. Redditch began with older more established players in Open Age football and after a even period of play Redditch began to look more dangerous and we rewarded with a well struck goal from Kellie Smith.

Half way through the first half the Reds made 5 substitutions, following an enforced change following injury, meaning all 6 new signings this season who were available were on the pitch. Immediately a chance fell to Sarah Badger who struck the ball well but the Star keeper managed to parry it away. Perkins then scored following a speculative cross that cayght the Star keeper out and deflected it into her net.

Moments later Perkins free kick struck the bar and Redditch continued to press reaching half time in a comfortable lead.

Star had picked up a couple of injuries on the hard ground and changed keepers, this along with further changes to the Reds line up turned the game in favour of the visitors and two poor defensive lapses allowed Star to get level.

Redditch probably should have made more of the chances that fell their way but overall the match proved a valuable insight in to the abilities of the new players and although the team was disappointed giving way the 2 goal advantage from a management perspective the friendly had delivered what was wanted.

Next game on the 15th will be against Knowle Ladies who play in the division above and will be a good gauge on how the team is moulding together.
