After an even first 20 minutes
Redditch fell behind from a well struck shot. The Reds
rallied and equalised when Leroux lobbed the stranded goal
keeper.
A
dubious free kick conceded on the edge of the box resulted in the
visitors second when unchallenged at the far post the Atherstone striker
tapped the ball in, a third followed before half time.
The second half saw Redditch have to re-arrange due to injury to Lucy
Roberts and the weakened midfield immediately were taken advantage of by
Atherstone who scored two goals in quick succession.
Redditch were then dealt a double blow first being denied a clear cut
penalty and then Grigg in the Reds goal misjudging a shot she thought
was going wide only to see it in the back of the net.
Atherstone played by far the better football and only some last ditch
defending kept the score down. Redditch created only a few chances but
battled to the end and were rewarded with a last minute goal from Smith.
Overall a disappointing result but with the introduction of several new
and young players the match was always going to be difficult. Lots of
things to work on at training and in forthcoming games
