The Reds started the game in
confident manner and soon had Solihull on the back foot
however no real chances were being created and the visitors
were dominating any play in the air.
It was down to persistence from Smith who pounced on a loose ball when
the solihull keeper mis-handled that opened the scoring. The Reds than
created one or two more opportunities but failed to really test the
keeper further. Solihull looked competitive but it was a clear push on
the Reds central defender that allowed the space for the Solihull
striker to run on goal and neatly loft the ball over the oncoming
keeper.
The second half saw Redditch play with more urgency and determination
and they began to make the ball do the work with some very good passing
movements, however it looked again as if there was no end result until a
tidy ball through to Lingham saw a cooly taken shot pass the static
Solihull keeper.
Redditch then had the best of the game creating more chances including a
terrific shot from player of the match Taylor that shook the bar. A well
taken free kick from Leroux in the penalty box saw Lingham react first
and blast the ball in to the net.
An all round pleasing display from the team and a well deserved first
three points of the season.
