Redditch started the game
brightly and could have taken an early lead but for a
wayward shot. The game was pretty even and the Reds had yet
another chance to take the lead for it to be squandered yet
again.
Bilbrook were competitive to the point in being reckless in a number of
challenges but these went unpunished in the main and showed little
respect for the officials or fellow players in both word and deed.
It's was unfortunate that this distracted from the neat football they
actually play and it was such a move that unlocked the Redditch defence
and opened the scoring. With their tails up Bilbrook applied more
pressure but is was two unnecessary and avoidable mistakes from the
Redditch defence that gave further opportunities to the visitors attack
and they despatched both with ruthlessness.
Half time gave the Reds to regroup and some positional changes tightened
the defence and strengthened midfield. Redditch then had the advantage
of the breeze and slope and had the better possession which eventually
resulted in a well worked goal, good play down the wing and cross found
Helen Roberts running in and her header beat the disgruntled goalkeeper.
Redditch then went on to have 3 further good opportunities all falling
to the same player but lack of composure and the desire to break the net
saw two of the shots wide of goal without testing the visitors keeper.
Overall the game would have been better as a draw, for Bilbrooks
excellent finishing and Redditch's endeavour, however football is about
scoring goals and minimising mistakes and this is something the Reds
need to get correct to improve their league position.
