Redditch won the toss and
elected to play against the slight breeze but considerable
slope on a very uneven and bumpy pitch. The game was a very
quiet affair with neither team communicating very much.
It was Redditch who made much of the front running and after a few close
calls eventually opened the scoring with a well struck shot from Jess
Lingham. Other chances came and went with the closest being a shot from
Lucy Roberts which was saved by the face of the Tamworth goalkeeper
giving her a bloody nose for her troubles.
The second half saw the Reds press but make few clear cut openings and
as is often the case by pushing forward the Redditch defence got caught
a little far forward and a through ball saw the Tamworth attacker out
bustle both central defenders to run on goal and finish with a firm
strike.
The game looked as if it was heading for a draw as Reditch still
retained most possession but were not able to convert into aatempts on
goal, that was until a neat passing move played Smith through on the
edge of the box and taking the ball in her stride shot from 15 yards
past the stranded keeper.
Redditch could have added another in the dying seconds as the ball was
strambled away from the hosts goal without a serious shot on goal being
made. Overall a satisfying result without the best of performances.
