Redditch began the game with
attacking intent and were unfortunate not to take the lead
early in the game due to a combination of good goalkeeping
and poor finishing.
Having absorbed the pressure
Ladies started to settle down and made a couple of breaks
which in turn saw them have some half chances, It fell to a
change in format to give Redditch a bit more direct attack
and a quick pass out of defence from Toni McQuaid fell to
Kellie Smith who shot hard and low past the Ladies keeper
into the corner of the net. Redditch started just as
brightly in the second half and soon doubled their lead
through Jess Lingham.
A third could have come but
brave keeping kept the Reds attack out. Ladies then scored a
neat goal on the break and followed it with a 10 minute
spell of pressure before Smith smacked in a terrific strike
that gave the visitors keeper no chance.
Redditch maintained the
intensity and scored a fourth, again through Lingham who
soon followed with her hat-trick goal. Overall a very
satisfactory performance by Redditch following their
prolonged break from a match
