After the disappointment of last Sunday Redditch were raring to get
going against Sandwell and should have opened the scoring in the first
two minutes, Sarah Badger just lifting the ball over the advancing
keeper but wide of the goal. Several other chances came and went until
Sarah picked up a short corner and fired in from a tight angle.
Jess Lingham then hit the post before finding the net. Redditch
continued to sporn opportunities and this was to be their achillies heel
again when a penalty was awarded for for a foul on a Sandwell forward by
keeper Helen Racki. Half time reached at 1-2. The second half continued
in the same vain with Redditch having most of the possession and
creating chances but being unable to capitalise on them.
As always happens this gave the opposition a lift and Sandwell equalised
when the Reds defence was unable to clear the ball. Redditch always
looked the more likely to win the game and eventually the pressure told
and Lingham scored her second. Badger, Lingham and Laura Perkins all had
their chance to add to the score line but failed to find the net ad
Redditch took the game with a score line that didn't reflect the actual
play.
That said Sandwell never gave up and could have always had sneaked a
winner, if that had happened justice certainly wouldn't have been done.
As it is its the Reds who advance to the quarter finals
