Redditch played
Lye for the third time this season determined not to be beaten again.
The first half proved to be a close affair which the Redditch forwards
being adjudged offside on a number of occasions, many which were
debatable including where the Reds scored.
Redditch were much more up
for this game than in the previous meetings and the visitors found
breaking the Reds defence down much more difficult and a bit more luck
may have seen a Redditch shot go in rather than get deflected on to the
post but half time saw the game goalless.
The second half started with
Lye being more competitive themselves and for once the Reds defence were
found wanting when they were all pulled to one side of the pitch
allowing a cross ball to find a Lye forward unmarked to fire in to the
net. Disappointed Redditch recouped and pulled level after determination
from Kellie Smith to win the ball back set Jess Lingham on a run down
the right and crossed for Sarah Badger to beat the keeper from 7 yards.
The game remained even until a mistake in the Reds defence resulted in a
soft goal for Lye. It looked like this was going to be enough but
Redditch again dug deep and good work out of defence found its way to
Badger who showed strength to beat the defensive challenge and shoot
high in to the net. Both teams then had chances to take all the points
with the best falling to Lye where a lobbed shot bounced of the top of
the bar.
Overall this was a much improved performance from Redditch and
perhaps could think themselves a little unfor tunate not to have taken
all the points
