The first match in December proved to be a match of two
halves.
In the first half Redditch had the majority of possession,
playing some good football and creating some good scoring
opportunities. Having over twenty chances to score, we
couldn’t seem to find the back of the net.
Redditch defence remained strong throughout the half never
giving ‘ten men’ Kenilworth Strikers any real opportunities
to get sight of goal. Abi Lewis Redditch’s keeper for this
match stayed strong and dominated her area well.
First half ended surprisingly 0-0
After an encouraging half time team talk Redditch again
started the second half the stronger of the two sides.
Soon into the second half Kenilworth managed to go 1-0 ahead
after a successful counter attack, leaving Redditch players
frustrated. In true Redditch style Redditch played some
exquisite passing football giving Nat Monaghan the chance to
take a long range shot on goal which from the moment the
ball was struck, was always going to end up in the back of
the net. 1-1 Game on.
With team morale at a high it wasn’t long before another
opportunity presented itself to Natalie Raggio-Taylor who
sweetly struck the ball from outside the eighteen yard box
to take Redditch to 2-1.
Kenilworth did manage to test new keeper Abi Lewis a couple
of times in the second half but she made some excellent
saves to keep Redditch ahead. As the bad weather approached
this did not affect Redditch’s ability to play good passing
football, giving Natalie Raggio-Taylor another opportunity
to strike on goal and scoring yet another long range shot to
take Redditch to 3-1. It wasn’t long before Sarah Badger
took the score line to 4-1, with an excellent goal.
Kenilworth began to tier and made some defensive errors
allowing Redditch’s midfield to cross a dangerous ball into
the opposition’s box which Jess Lingham slotted away.
Another well deserved goal for Redditch.
Redditch did well to come from behind to win the match 5-1.
Every player worked hard and Redditch deserved the victory.
Man of the match was awarded to
Natalie Monaghan for her hard work and determination.
